The Engineering Department develops the plans and specifications for street construction and resurfacing projects and oversees construction work being performed within the City.
The Engineer provides oversight of new subdivision street construction, issues permits to contractors and utilities to work in the road right of way.
The Engineer reviews the layout of roads in new subdivisions for compliance with established standards for consideration by the City Commission, supervises the Director of Public Services and coordinates the other public service departments. The Department develops street improvement programs for presentation to the City Commission as well as the cost estimates for each project in these programs. He develops most project plans and specifications and oversees the designs being performed by consultants for the City. The Engineer also works with contractors, processes the pay estimates, inspection reports, testing forms and other documents involved in construction projects.
CITY ENFORCES TRUCK TRAFFIC AND WEIGHT LIMITS***
