Adopt a Fire Hydrant--'Help Us--Help You'

The City of St Johns and the surrounding communities experience significant amounts of snowfall each winter. We are asking that citizens participate in clearing snow from around their neighborhood hydrants within the City. The Adopt a Fire Hydrant program will maintain and improve fire safety for all. By taking a few minutes, you may save a Fire Fighter precious seconds that can make the difference at the scene of a fire. Your cooperation in this program is greatly appreciated by your community.

DOG LICENSES

The Clinton County Treasurer’s Office issues one and three year dog licenses.  The license expiration date is the month your rabies vaccination expires.  A renewal notice will be mailed thirty (30) days prior to expiration.  To avoid delinquency, renewal must occur by the end of the due month.  To purchase a three (3) year license, the rabies vaccination must be valid for the entire three years.  All dogs four (4) months and older are required by law to be licensed and vaccinated for rabies.  Fees are as follows:  One year license fee is $15 for male/female dogs, $10 for spayed/neutered and 4-5 month old puppies.  Three year license fee is $40 for male/female and $25 for spayed/neutered.  Delinquent license fee is $45 for the one year license.  Upon issuance of a ticket, court costs of $50 will also be incurred.  Licenses are available by mail. Contact the County Treasurer’s Office at 989-224-5280 for more information.  Proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination and spaying/neutering is required.

FALL LEAF COLLECTION

The City asks your cooperation during the fall leaf collection program. The program is designed to be "friendlier to the environment" and safer traveling for our residents. The program offers curbside collection for bagged leaves. The schedule will be published on the Website, on the access channel and in the local newspaper.

Bagged leaves will be picked up daily during the annual leaf collection period. For curbside pick-up, all leaves must be placed in paper yard waste bags. Plastic bags will not be picked up. All bags must be placed at the curb in front of your house, not in the street.  The City also asks residents not to place loose leaves in the street, as this blocks the flow of water into the storm sewers during the rainy season.

The program allows the City to publish a coupon in the local newspaper and on the city's website redeemable for ten (10) free yard waste bags (limit one per City household). The coupons are redeemable at City Offices, Briggs Public Library and the Public Works Department. Please follow the instructions on the coupon.

If you prefer not to bag, you may bring loose leaves to the compost site located at the Public Works Department, 1000 North US-127 BR. Use the Kuntz Drive access. The site is open twenty-four (24) hours a day/seven (7) days a week.

Regular curbside brush pick-up is suspended during leaf collection but residents may still take brush to the compost site.

If you are a senior or physically challenged and are unable to dispose of your leaves as described above, please contact City Offices at 224-8944. The City has received pledged support from a number of volunteer organizations to assist in these matters.
